Brownwood High School’s Sydney Roberts participated in the regional preview golf tournament at the Shadow Hills Golf Course in Lubbock this past weekend.
Conditions were horrible according to BHS Golf Coach Laura Martin.
“Friday, Sydney struggled with the wind, which was steady at 45-50 mph. The conditions were horrible,” said Martin. “Skies were brown with huge tumble weeds blowing everywhere.”
Roberts had a hard time at the beginning of the course, but after the first eight holes, she settled down and played much better shooting a 90. Her goal that evening was to make it in the top ten, according to Coach Martin.
Saturday was much better weather with wind at 10-15 mph and during Sydney’s last three holes it was gusting at 30 mph. Martin stated that she was very proud of Sydney for overcoming these difficult conditions.“Sometimes it is difficult to make a comeback after a high round,” Martin stated. “I was so proud of her shooting a 75 on the second day which put her in 9th place for the tournament.”
Roberts will participate in the regional competition on April 16-17 at Shadow Hills Golf Course.
