SyndeyRobertsState2016Brownwood High School senior Sydney Roberts tied for 5th place out of 72 golfers in the UIL 4A State Tournament played at Onion Creek Country Club in Austin on Tuesday.  Roberts is the daughter of Jeff and Diane Roberts of Brownwood.

Roberts shot 77-75 for a two-day total of 152.  This is Roberts’ third trip to the state tournament.  She placed 5th as a sophomore, 7th as a junior and 5th as a senior.  Roberts played two solid days of golf, only having two bad holes keeping her from the top spot, according to her mother Diane Roberts.  She ended her Brownwood Lions golf career on the 18th hole by hitting a 96-yard gap wedge to 2 inches to tap in for a Birdie.

“Being able to compete in the state tournament for three years means so much.  It shows how hard I work every day,” said Roberts after the tournament.  “I wouldn’t have made it this far without the support from my parents, Coach Martin, and my swing coach Jimmy Tidwell.  I am so blessed with opportunities I have had throughout my high school career, and I can’t wait to see what my future holds at UCO.”

Roberts will be attending the University of Central Oklahoma on a golf scholarship and will study Kinesiology.  She plans to continue with physical therapy school after her undergraduate studies.

Her golf stats include 4 year All District; 3 time District Champion; 4 year All Region; Regional Champion as a sophomore, setting a still standing regional record with a score of 5 under par; 3 time state qualifier with 5th, 7th, and 5th places; and 4 time First Team All-State selection.
