Robert Lewis Martin, 74, of Proctor, died Friday March 19, 2010, in a Ft. Worth hospital.

Robert was born December 4, 1935, in Hamilton to Clarence Alford and Clara Lilly (Phears) Martin. He attended school for a while in Hamilton before going to work for himself and owning a gasoline service station in Arlington. He was a Baptist and lived in the area 38+ years. Most of his life was spent as a truck driver until he retired about 30 years ago. Robert was excellent at many crafts and could build or repair just about anything. He loved to tell stories; in fact, he is said to be a “master” story teller. He was also big into fishing and golfing but traveling was probably his most enjoyed past time. He and his wife, Mavis, visited all over the United States by car but their most enjoyed location was Colorado. The many mountains and gorges were favorites with tourist activities in some special towns like Blackhawk and Central City topping the list.
Robert is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mavis; sons, Bret Martin and wife Carol, and Terry Martin; daughter, Shannon Martin; grandchildren, Cody and wife Jackie, Marissa, Amy, Cole, Chenoa, Justi and husband Richard, Chalani, Kaleb, Colton, Chazdon, and Jordan; 2 great-grandchildren; sister, Clara Trobough; numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by son, Robert Len Martin; his parents, 2 brothers and 1 sister.
