Robert Joe “Bob” Curbo died on September 29, 2013 in Brownwood, after a brief illness. Bob was born in Winchell, Texas, on January 8, 1940. He lived most of his life in Brownwood. He served his country in the Texas National Guard. He worked at 3M for forty years, serving on the Board of Directors of the Cen-Tex Manufacturing Credit Union and as an officer of the 3M Club. He valued the friendships made in all those years at 3M, especially those hunting and fishing buddies. Bob volunteered at Good Samaritan and was an active member of First Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and beloved Sunday School teacher for first through third graders for 34 years.
Bob is survived by his wife of 35 years, Joyce Curbo; daughter and husband, Cindi and Andy Caraway; son and wife, Jay and Kimber Bennett; daughter Jennifer Williams; daughter Kim Curbo (all of Brownwood); and son Randy Bennett of Houston. He was the proud “Granddad Bob” of nine grandchildren: Kate Caraway, Kristin and Cory Heilman, Drew and Trish Caraway, Charles Bennie, William Plavchak, Daniel Williams, Delaney Bennett, Jesse Bennett, and James Williams. He was so proud of his great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jathan, and Jace Caraway; and Emma Kate Heilman. He is also survived by a sister, Merle Lemond and husband Guy, of May, and a brother, Roy Curbo and wife, Patty, of Brownwood, a host of nieces and nephews, and a special little friend, Ceetah.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Taylor and Mary Curbo, and a brother, Dewey Curbo.
A Home-going celebration will be held at First Baptist Church of Brownwood, at 11:00 AM, on Wednesday, October 2, after a private graveside service at Eastlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 PM at Heartland Funeral Home Early. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Together Touching Eternity fund at First Baptist Church or to Good Samaritan Ministries. The Curbo family wishes to express their profound appreciation for the doctors and nurses at Brownwood Regional Medical Center who treated him and the family with such kindness and sincere personal concern; they would also like to thank special friends who stayed close with them at the hospital, especially Joyce’s brother, Jerald Ballard.
