City of Brownwood Parks and Recreation Director David Withers announced Thursday that Riverside Park will reopen on Friday, July 17th. The park had been closed due to flood damage from the rising waters of the Pecan Bayou on Wednesday and Thursday of last week.
After assessing damage and cleaning up scattered brush and debris, the city will reopen the park for citizens’ enjoyment.
Mayor Stephen Haynes stated at Tuesday’s city council meeting 10 people had to be evacuated from the park as flood waters began to fill the park and that all of the ducks were reported to be uninjured after the waters receeded.
