Rising Star will celebrate Independence Day on July 4th – 6th by hosting their 18th Annual Freedom Festival Weekend, full of music, community wide garage sales and more.  Organizers state the weekend will be full of events to satisfy just about everyone.

The Community Wide Garage Sales will begin on July 4th and continue through the 6th (contact Judy Green at 254-643-5048 to be put on the map–there is a $3 fee for being listed).  Maps listing garage sale locations will be available at the Star Grocery on Hwy 36 and downtown during the open-air market at some of the booths.

“Night of Texas Country Music” featuring Brandon Rhyder will be held on Friday, July 5th from 6 PM  to 12 PM.  Admission to this concert event will be $15 for adults and children over 10 years-old.  Ten and under are free.  There will be a $10 cooler charge.

The “Open Air Market” will be held on Saturday, July 6th (since it is the first Saturday of the month) and in order to not conflict with that, the Freedom Festival will begin later in the day at 4 PM at the city park and last until dark.  Vendors are welcome to set up at the park during the festival, (there will be no set-up fee).  A silent auction table along with an apple pie bake-off (enter by 5 PM) and ice cream freeze off (enter by 5:30 PM) will also be held.   A traditional water slide and bounce house, music, food, and FIREWORKS fill the agenda for the afternoon and evening.  For more information, please call 254-643-5048.

The evening will culminate with a fireworks and celebration in the park.  Organizers state that donations are still being accepted and are still needed for the fireworks fund.  They also remind parents to “please watch your children” because accidents do happen (especially when they are on the water slide or in the bounce house).
