Brownwood News – According information released by the Rising Star Police Department, on Saturday night, February 29, Chief Edgin made a traffic stop at S. Miller and West Ross.

Upon attempting contact with the driver, the driver fled on foot down West Ross toward S. Main.

Edgin received assistance from Eastland County Sheriff’s Office, Eastland PD and DPS.  A search to find the suspect began, but to no avail.  Edgin began to do a search of the truck.  He found several roosters in various states of injury and one dead.

With that being found, a detailed search was completed and evidence of criminal activity was found. The roosters were confiscated and taken to an animal rescue and are awaiting veterinary services. The pickup was towed and is being held.

On Sunday, warrants were sworn out and the suspect, Lance Lynn Robertson, of May, was arrested. Robertson was booked into Eastland County Jail for Possession of Controlled Substance and Cockfighting. More charges are pending, according to Rising Star Police.

Those arrested are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
