Rising Star ISD, a 2011 U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon School award winner, is proud to announce its supporting non-profit organization, the Rising Star ISD Education Foundation.  The Rising Star ISD Education Foundation is now officially a 501(c)3 organization.

The 501(c)3 status means that any donations to the Rising Star ISD Education Foundation are tax deductible as it is now considered a public charity. The Rising Star ISD Education Foundation’s mission is to promote academic enrichment among Rising Star ISD students and faculty.  The Foundation’s board members are Dr. Max Thompson, Sarah Childers, Dr. Jim Carpenter, and Sarah Allgood.

The Foundation’s initial efforts put together funds from various sources to acquire the new electronic sign located by the tennis courts at the school. Advertisement opportunities via the electronic sign are available. All proceeds made will go directly to Rising Star ISD EducationFoundation projects.

There are currently two projects in existence. The first is the development of The Central Texas Junior Debate League which fosters critical thinking, research, and communication skills. This program is open all junior high students within a 30 mile radius of Rising Star and gives all students in the surrounding school districts the option to participate in Rising Star’s Junior High’s debate program. The second program gives upperclassman at Rising Star ISD the option to help underserved individuals with beautification projects within the city limits, and in turn, have the opportunity to earn scholarship funds as well as community service hours for college admission applications. Many more projects are in the works for this organization and the board of trustees plans on using the Rising Star ISD Education Foundation to supplement this Blue Ribbon Award winning institution.

Anyone wishing to make a tax deductible donation to the foundation and its projects can contact Sarah Allgood at the Rising Star ISD Office at 254-643-1981.
