The Brownwood Chamber of Commerce and City of Brownwood hosted a ribbon cutting for the new Camp Bowie Family Aquatic Center on Friday.  Former Mayor Bert Massey had the honor of cutting the ribbon and Mayor Stephen Haynes made comments on the project.

The crowd gathered under the pavilion for the Mayor’s speech as he expressed gratitude to all who have contributed to the project.  He said that many people and organizations contributed not only in the construction but also the dream, initial planning, and grassroots work to get the vote for the Parks Project (Recreation Center, Aquatic Center and Sports Complex) through help from the Industrial Foundation Board and the Brownwood Economic Development Corporation. He also mentioned the part the city council and city staff played in getting the project completed.

Haynes referred to a friend, Emily Crawford, who works for the Brownwood Independent School District who recently commented on completion of the Aquatic Center in her blog.  Crawford posted thoughts about the new Camp Bowie Family Aquatic Center and a visit to it with her children.   She commented that the building of the facility will not only allow citizens to enjoy it for the day but to have the comfort that it will always be here tomorrow for the community to enjoy.

“To all of you who have played a role in the pool complex:  We need what you have given us and will treasure it for years to come,” stated Crawford in her blog.

In comments regarding the success of the pool, visitor numbers and reaching capacity, Haynes stated, “This tells me the community is very excited about this project and about this facility.”

“The thing I love about it the most, not just that I get to spend a great time here with my kids, but to me this kind of facility tells other people that Brownwood is ahead of the curve, not behind it,” said Haynes.  “That this is a community that will continue to grow.”

After the ribbon cutting, the crowd toured the features of the facility.  See photos below along with video of Mayor Haynes comments.
