Local businessman, radio personality and community leader Rex Tackett was named the 2013 Distinguished Citizen by the Boy Scouts of America, Texas Trails Council Tuesday at a dinner in his honor at Coggin Avenue Baptist Church community life center.
Former Brownwood Mayor Bert Massey served as master of ceremonies at the event and outlined some of Tackett’s accomplishments while making jokes along the way.
Tackett was presented with the Distinguished Citizen award and the North Star Award. The North Star Award is an award for “non-Scouters” which gives councils, areas, regions, and the national council opportunity to “recognize individuals for significant contributions.”
Former president of the Texas Trails Council Steve Ellis introduced Tackett and presented him with the awards.
Tackett thanked those in attendance, poked fun at himself and those that honored him in a “tribute” video showed during the event.
“I read something recently that all of us can embrace,” Tackett said. “You can’t fix everything, but you can help. That’s who you are, those who help, those who contribute, those who care.
He wrapped up his acceptance speech with gratitude for the award and the recognition.
“Thank you for this honor, I don’t take it lightly and I hope I can live up to it one day,” he said.
