The Brownwood Reunion Celebration is just three weeks away, and excitement continues to build for this year’s Hands on a House competition. Organizers for the event announced that a costume contest will once again be included in this year’s competition as contestants battle to take home the custom built playhouse.
The costume contest portion of the competition will be held Saturday night, September 15th, after the Wade Bowen concert. Hands on a House contestants will dress in costume of the theme “hunt or be hunted.”
“We are asking the Hands on a House contestants to dress as anything they like from Daniel Boone or Davy Crockett to Elmer Fudd, Wiley Coyote, Road Runner, Bambi, Bugs Bunny, Teddy Roosevelt, Buffalo Bill, etc,” according to the announcement from event sponsor Coldwell Banker.
During the costume contest portion of Hands on a House, contestants will be judged on most creative, most authentic, and funniest costumes, and there will be a special prize for the winner of this side-contest. The public will cast ballots for the best costume as they walk by the Hands on a House area after they exit the concert.
Last year, the winner of the costume contest received an extra break from the main Hands on a House competition.
During Hands on a House, participants compete for a custom built playhouse by keeping their hand in contact with the house for the duration of the Reunion beginning Friday afternoon, September 14th. Contestants will be provided with limited breaks during the competition. The last person with their hand in contact with the house is declared the winner.
This year’s house will be modeled after a hunting cabin, and there will also be a hunting blind given away as second prize this year.
The rules for the contest state that Hands on a House is a physical endurance contest and will pit 25 contestants, men and women equally alike, against each other. Contestants must remain standing around the clock, day and night, with only minimum breaks for eating and restroom visits, during the Brownwood Reunion Celebration from September 14th through 16th.
There will also be other “extreme” challenges for contestants during the event including participation in the Reunion parade, various food drive competitions, a blind-folded round, a “Simon Says” contest, a waiter’s contest, and/or other physical and mental challenges in addition to the costume contest.
Twenty-five contestants will be selected from the entry forms received. Forms must be dropped off at Coldwell Banker, Mark Campbell & Associates – 1900 Austin Avenue.
This year’s competition is sponsored by Coldwell Banker, Mark Campbell & Associates, TexasBank Mortgage, Landmark Life Insurance Company, Ingram Concrete LLC, and Johnny Cantwell – Contractor.
The house can currently be seen at the corner of Adams Street and Carnegie where the competition will take place.
