2010ReunionLogosmallLongtime coordinator and executive director of the Brownwood Reunion Celebration, Randee Green, will be stepping down from the position early next year.  A committee has just started the process of looking for someone to fill the executive director position for the next festival.

Green has been involved with the Brownwood Reunion Celebration for 10 years and has served as executive director since 2006.   She said that she is leaving the position to move to the Houston area, but she will stay to see the position filled and help for a few weeks, if needed, with any training of the new hire.

“You never know how special something is until you have to go,” Green stated about leaving Brownwood.  “It’s a sweet place, its felt like home.  I hope I leave it a little better than I found it.”

The Reunion is really a community effort according to Green.  She explained that it all started with an idea from Brownwood native Roy Spence, Jr. who along with his advertising firm GSD&M of Austin worked to help develop a festival of sorts to create something we could celebrate as a community.  Many volunteers and planners throughout the years have made it become what it is today, which Green described as changing each year.

The dedication of so many people involved in the Brownwood Reunion Celebration each year, some of which even spend vacation time as a volunteer, is an example of what Green explained as how the Brownwood area celebrates their love for the community…a coming together as a community to make a project a success.

In fact, the Brownwood Reunion Celebration has become so well known across the state that other festival planners have called the Brownwood Reunion planners for advice.  The Reunion Celebration has also received 21 awards statewide from such groups as the Texas Festivals and Events Association and the Texas Municipal Association to name a few.

Qualifications for the executive director position include event planning experience, excellent written and oral communication skills, office management skills, self-motivated, attention to detail, multi-tasker, ability to solve problems diplomatically, clear criminal background check and credit check, effective computer skills and the ability to budget effectively.  Media relations experience and bachelors degree are preferred.

Green said that the executive director can’t organize the entire event alone, but will need to turn to a small army of volunteers to help.

“It is definitely a community effort,” said Green. “One person couldn’t do it alone.”

Resumes for the executive director position must be emailed to BrownwoodReunionCelebration@msn.com by Jan. 10th.
