BBQThe 10th Annual Brownwood Reunion is quickly approaching and organizers announced Monday that BBQ Cook-off Entry Forms will be available online www.BrownwoodTX.com and at the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce beginning at 8:00am on Wednesday, August 18th.  RV spaces are limited and are available on a first paid entry basis.  With the new location, Reunion organizers are expecting more many teams to join in the fun.

A few new things to note for this year’s BBQ cook-off:

*BBQ Cook-off will take place at a new location, across from the Lehnis Train Museum at 700 East Adams on September 17th & 18th.
*RV spots will be limited to and reserved by the first 17 paid entries with additional $40 RV Fee.
*No Electrical or water provided except at paid RV spots.  Additional 40 entrants will have no electrical or water spots available.
*RV spaces will be assigned based on order of entry.
*Please, no arrivals before 8:00 am, Friday, September 17th.

Details for this year’s BBQ Cook-off:

  • Categories: Brisket, 1/2 Chicken, Pork spare ribs
  • Fee: $75.00 for all meats for early entry and $90.00 Late entry after Aug. 31
  • Theme: Circus
  • Awards: 90% Payout with trophies & money to 1st –3rd places.  Certificates to 4th-10th.  Local Bragging Rights will also be awarded. Grand Champion trophy and money will be announced on Saturday.
  • Jack Pot Beans: 100% payout on beans and $10.00 entry fee.
  • IBCA Sanctioned

Reunion Cook-off Rules

  1. NOTE:  Only one (1) team per pit.
  2. Teams will consist of a Head Cook and 4 team members.
  3. Any and all meat and/or meats that may be entered into judging will be cooked from scratch within the constraints of the event. Pre-cooking, marinating, etc. will not be allowed prior to start of the cook-off as defined by the cook-off promoter.
  4. Fires must be wood or charcoal. Pit may include gas or electricity to start natural substance, but not to complete cooking. Holes or open pits are not permitted. Fires may not be built on the ground. Each team MUST bring a fire extinguisher.
  5. Props, trailers, motor home vehicles, tents and any other equipment may not exceed the boundary of the contestant’s assigned space. No tent stakes can be driven into the asphalt.
  6. Cook’s Meeting will be held in the Judging area. HEAD COOKS MUST ATTEND. Date & Time TBA. Categories: a. ½ Chicken fully jointed split chicken (with breast, wing, thigh, and drumstick); b. Pork Spare Ribs 7 individual ribs (bone in); c. Brisket 7 full slices (approx. ¼ inch to 3/8 inch thick).  BASED ON THE NUMBER OF COOKS TURN-IN QUANTITES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE.  No garnish or sauce is allowed in tray to turn-in. You can cook with sauce but it cannot be ladled onto the meat at turn-in.
  7. It is the responsibility of the contestant to see that the contest area is kept clean and that the area is cleaned and policed following the contest. All fires must be put out, concrete blocks and other building materials or props hauled away and all equipment removed from the site.
  8. Excessive use of alcoholic beverages may be grounds for disqualification. Alcoholic beverage rules must be followed (for example: poured into cups). Under no circumstances are alcoholic beverages to be distributed to the general public by contestants. No food sales to the general public.
  9. No extra vehicles shall be allowed in the pit area once pit is setup. Motorhome is considered to be one (1) vehicle.
  10. No animals allowed in cook-off area, with exception of Seeing Eye Dogs.
  11. IBCA judging rules will apply.
  12. The Brownwood Reunion and cook-off officials will not be held responsible for accidents, theft, or any mishaps.
  13. No skateboards, skates, in-line skates or bicycles are allowed.
  14. No gators, 4 wheelers or ATV’s please.
