WoodlandHeightsRetiredTeachers

The Retired Teachers of Woodland Heights meet once a month for lunch. Instead of sending birthday cards or buying gifts, they decided to give the money they would have spent to a favorite charity. The retired teacher whose birthday would be that month gets to choose the charity recipient. There were no birthdays in September, but the group had lost one of their own, Sheila Fikes who had been a teacher at Woodland Heights for 10 years.

Fikes had also been a devoted volunteer at Good Samaritan Ministries. In lieu of flowers her family had requested that donations be sent to GSM so the Retired Teachers of Woodland Heights decided that is where their September donations would go.

They were able to donate $110 to GSM’s The Deer Project on behalf of former friend, teacher and volunteer, Sheila Fikes.
