Central Texas Opportunities hosted a resource fair Tuesday to offer the public a chance to see all the resources available to Brown County families and to visit with their representatives.
Resources featured at the fair included safety, medical, insurance, family issues, counseling, health, nutrition, mental wellness, stress management, education, parenting, child development, life skills, child abuse, employment and adult protective services. The fair also provided these Brown County non-profit agencies a chance to highlight their services to the community, talking one-on-one with the public.Approximately 30 agencies were present at the event. Brownwood/Brown County Health Department, WIC, Brown County Emergency Management, Brownwood Area Community Garden, Pearl Griffin Memorial Latch Key Program, the Boys and Girls Club, Big Brothers Big Sisters and many more were represented at the event.
Even governmental agencies such as Texas Department of Transportation and the Brownwood Fire Department were present, showing safety exhibits. BFD gave tours of their fire engine and handed out safety information. TxDOT had a very dramatic exhibit featuring a machine that was made up of a rotating cab from a pickup truck to demonstrate the importance of seatbelts (pictured below). When dummies were buckled in, they stayed inside the vehicle and when they weren’t they flew out, and those observing could see firsthand how violently they exited the vehicle in a rollover accident. Representatives were on hand at the TxDOT display handing out infant safety information regarding seat belts, dangers of leaving children in hot vehicles and more.
