The Corinne T. Smith Animal Center is partnering with The Ark Domestic Violence Shelter on Saturday, August 22nd to present the Tails on the Trail fundraiser.
When victims arrive at the ARK Domestic Violence Shelter, they are allowed to bring their pets which need pet food, vaccinations, veterinary care, in addition to what is needed for the people themselves. All money raised at this event will be used to support this program. Sometimes the pets also need protection from the abuser.
The ARK recently received a grant from the Red Rover Foundation to build kennels for dogs and cats. The public is invited to provide help in caring for these animals by walking one mile in a parade with their dogs at Riverside Park.
The event will run from 9 AM until noon. There will be a $20 entry fee for the first entry and $5 for each additional dog entered in the walk. Included with entry is one purple event bandana for dogs entered and one lunch (hamburger or hotdog, chips and a drink). Prizes will be given for the following: Best Dressed Dog, Best Behaved Dog, Funniest Looking Dog, Biggest Dog, Littlest Dog, Dog that Does the Best Tricks and Dog that Looks Most Like It’s Owner. There will also be treats for the dogs and door prizes. Those who do not wish to enter the walk with their dog are also invited to support the pet program of the ARK through purchase of a hamburger/hotdog lunch for just $5.
“I hope lots of people come out and enjoy a morning at the park, with or without your dogs,” said Freda Day, Administrative Manager Corinne T. Smith Animal Center.
The center will also offer dogs available adoptions from 9 AM – noon at the event.
