Several businesses, organizations, and churches in the Brownwood area are hosting events celebrating fall as well as Halloween. Residents of all ages, both the young and young at heart, are encouraged to attend. October 31st, or Halloween, falls on Monday this year and in addition to trick-or-treating, many places in the Brownwood area will be hosting special events leading up to the day.

1st Annual Theatre of Darkness

The Brownwood High School Theatre Department presents their 1st Annual “Theatre of Darkness,” a spooky tour backstage at the high school theatre, Friday October 28th from 7-11 p.m. and Saturday October 29th from 6 p.m. to midnight. Admission is $5 and Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. This is a family friendly haunt with meausres in place to empower even the youngest patrons.

Dairy Queen First Annual Trunk or Treat

Dairy Queen will be holding it’s first annual Trunk-or-treat. Children are welcome to trick-or-treat for candy and other treats. There will also be a costume contest at 7 p.m. with prizes for winners and participants.
“Monster Quest” Haunted Museum Tour

“Monster Quest” will be presented by Alpha Psi Omega from Howard Payne University and the Brown County Museum of History. Tours of the Brown County Museum will take place every 15 minutes. Tickets are $5 per person. Ages 10 years old and up is recommended due to theatrical scares. The Brown County Museum is located at 212 N. Broadway, diagonally from the courthouse. Scavenger Hunt Bingo at the Lehnis Railroad Museum

Every Saturday during October from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. children of all ages as well as adults are encouraged to participate in a Scavenger Hunt Bingo. Prizes are available after specified items are discovered within the museum. Admission into the museum is $3 for adults, $2 for children ages 5-12, and under 5 years old are admitted for no charge. The mini train rides are also available for $2 per passenger.
Jomio and Rueliete’s Cards & Comics Annual Halloween Costume Contest/ComicFest

Jomio and Rueliete’s Cards and Comics will host their annual Halloween costume contest and Halloween ComicFest from 5:30-10:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 29th. There are three age categories for the costume contest: Children (under 12), Tweens and Teens (12-17), and Adult (18 and over). Free candy and comic books will be available for attendees. Freedom Fellowship Church will host a trunk or treat at their church, located at 1040 Early Blvd. in Early. Carnival style games, candy, hot dogs, and drinks will be available at no charge to the public.
Trick-or-Treat in Heartland Mall

Heartland Mall, located at 300 Early Boulevard, will be hosting its annual Fall Festival with candy, carnival style games, a cake walk, and other family friendly activites. A costume contest hosted by The Salvation Army will also be held during the evening. Cost of entry for the contest is two cans of corn, which will be donated to The Salvation Army’s kitchen.

Trick-or-treaters are invited to visit several downtown businesses during the 8th Annual Trick-or-Treat Downtown event hosted by Fancy’s Day Spa and The Texas Massage Academy. Candy and other Halloween-related fun will be distributed by businesses along and near Center Avenue during the evening. Businesses currently scheduled to participate in the event include Hamilton’s, World Finance, Brownwood Fitness Center, Shearly Southern, Security Finance, Fancy’s Day Spa, and the Texas Massage Academy. 5th Annual Trick or Treat Trail

The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce and Wendlee Broadcasting have teamed up again this year to host the 5th Annual Trick or Treat Trail. This family friendly event will be held in the Depot Plaza area on Monday, October 31st from 5-7 p.m. Area businesses and organizations will offer candy, goodies, games and other fun activities free of charge to area residents. Also included during the event will be a Halloween Costume Contest sponsored by Demand Staff. The contest will offer prizes in the categories of most creative costume, best couple costume, best family costume, best group costume, cutest baby costume and best children’s costume. Entry forms for the costume contest are available at the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce – 600 E. Depot Street or online at BrownwoodChamber.org. During the Trick or Treat Trail, a family-friendly movie will be shown in the Depot pavilion lawn sponsored by Affiliated Bank and Baird Brothers Express Car Wash. Area businesses are encouraged to set up an activity booth during the Trick or Treat Trail to offer free games and candy to those in attendance.
