LazyFallAfternoon_byJanaHerndonOrganizers are getting set to host the 18th Annual Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit February 7-19, 2016 and encourage artists to prepare for the call for entries on January 29th & 30th at the Depot Civic and Cultural Center.

Artists may bring their completely dry, framed work between the hours of 5:00-6:30 p.m. on Friday, January 29th or Saturday, January 30th from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.  CLICK HERE for rules and media accepted for consideration at this year’s Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit.

This year’s juror will be Warren Taylor of San Angelo.  Taylor, an art educator, was born in Goessel, Kansas, (1945) and graduated from Bethan College with a BFA in 1968.  Both his MA and MFA are from Ft. Hays State University.  He taught in Kansas from 1971-1978, in Chautauqua, NY, 1983-84, then was professor of art at Midland College from 1979 until his retirement in San Angelo, Texas.  At Midland College he was named Piper Professor of the Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation in 1999.  He is a fellow of the American Watercolor Society, a member of the Watercolor USA Honor Society, and a signature member of the National Watercolor Society.

Mr. Taylor has been a guest juror at various exhibitions from 1991 until the present.  His one-man shows include: Baylor University (1989), Midwestern State University (1989), and Texas Tech University (1990).  His work has been included in various exhibitions including:  Watercolor USA, (top award), San Diego International (top award), San Angelo Museum of Fine Art (1992), Chautauqua Exhibition of American Art, Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolor, Artists of the Pacific Rim, Taiwan, Winsor-Newton Competition, NYC, London and Stockholm; Watercolor Without Borders, Irving, Texas and Milan, Italy (2000).

The exhibit itself will open to the public February 7th through 19th at the Depot Civic and Cultural Center in Brownwood.

The Salon des Refusés will open once again to artists to display their works that do not make the 2016 Stars of Texas Exhibit and will be held at the Art Center which is located at 215 Fisk Avenue.  The Salon des Refusés will also be open from February 7th through 19th.

*  Friday, January  29 – 5:00 – 6:30 pm – Drop off entries at the Depot Civic & Cultural Center, 600 Depot
*  Saturday, January 30 – 9 am to 12 noon – Drop off entries
*  Saturday, January 30 – Juror judges entries 12 noon to 4 pm
*  Works not selected must be picked up on Saturday, January 30, 4 to 5 pm
*  Art work for the Salon des Refuse`s will be accepted at the Art Center, 215 Fisk Ave from 4 to 6 pm on January 30.

*  Saturday, February 13 – 9:30 to 10:30 am registration for the Paint-Off Competition
*  Saturday, January 30 – 11:00 to 12:00 noon registration for the Digital Photo Shoot-Out Competition
*  Saturday, February 20 – End of Exhibit – Pick up Art Work – 11 noon to 1:00 pm.  Selected works must remain in exhibit until 11:00 am.

Saturday:  10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Sunday:  1:00 p.m. –  4:00 p.m.
