WeakleyWatsonPurpleBucketRelay4Life2016

Weakley-Watson True Value hardware store in Brownwood is currently hosting a fundraising promotion for Relay for Life.  Purple 5-gallon plastic buckets with the Relay for Life logo are being offered for sale for just $5.99 and half of those proceeds are being donated to Relay for Life.

In addition, customers purchasing the special purple Relay buckets get 20% off of most anything they can fit in the bucket (a few things are excepted).

“We did this promotion last year with pink buckets, but the American Cancer Society representative asked if we could get purple buckets, as purple is their color, it represents all forms of cancer,” explained owner Mike Blagg.  “We contacted the bucket company, they had never made purple buckets before but made them up for us, and a few other True Value stores, but we are the first in the country to have them.”

Blagg explained that the business is not making any money on the promo, in fact they actually lose money on it, but that Weakley-Watson is excited to raise money for a good cause.

Paint department manager Kathy Kelly stated that she felt that the promotion is a way the store is able to donate to the Relay and be a part of the event without being on a team.

“My dad died of cancer.  There’s no one who hasn’t been affected by cancer,” Kelly stated.  “It takes a community to make it (the Relay event) a success.”

The buckets are selling rather quickly, as more than 82 of the 480 ordered were sold as of Thursday morning.  The buckets arrived just two days earlier.

Kelly stated that the Relay for Life officials were really excited to see how nice the purple buckets turned out.
