NationalNtOutNeighborhoods across Brown County are getting ready to participate in National Night Out, but organizers of the event want to be sure that everyone has the chance to participate.

“I am very excited about this year’s National Night Out,” said Brownwood Police Chief Mike Corley.  “I know this is new for Brownwood, but I am looking forward to a great turnout in our community.”

From 5:30pm – 8:30pm on October 5th, residents throughout Brown County will be spending the evening outside with neighbors and police by hosting a variety of special events such as block parties, cookouts, and anticrime rallies.  Agencies such as the Brownwood Police Department, Early Police Department, Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Air Evac Lifeteam, and Guardian EMS along with city and county officials will travel around the county to visit these neighborhood gatherings and show support for the anti-crime efforts.

National Night Out is designed to: (1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Law enforcement officials are encouraging residents to use the event to not only to get to know their neighbors better, but in some cases, to plant the seeds for a neighborhood watch program.

Dozens of neighborhoods have already signed up to participate in National Night Out, but many areas still need to be represented.  Organizers are encouraging all residents to participate and make sure their neighborhood is signed up.

“Please get involved,” Chief Corley said.  “It really will not be much trouble and I promise you will be glad that you did.”

Two block captain meetings are going to be held on September 23rd at 1:30pm and 6pm at the Law Enforcement Center located at 1050 W. Commerce.  The meetings are open to anyone interested in helping with the event and to get more information.    Block captains who register their neighborhood will get a t-shirt and a yard sign to help promote the event.
