Rebecca McKee, a mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away Saturday morning, December 26, 2015 in Brownwood with her family by her side at the age of 83. A service celebrating her life will held 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at the New Beginnings Church in Brownwood. Interment will follow in Greenleaf Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 PM Monday at the Heartland Funeral Home.
Rebecca Ann was born on January 14, 1932 in Brownwood, Texas to Levell and Emma Maurine Slaughter. She was married to Abe McKee in Llano, Texas in 1950 and he preceded her in death in 1974. She was retired licensed vocational nurse. Rebecca has been in the ministry for over 35 years. She started the first Women’s Aglow that really took off in Brownwood, Texas. She served as President for two terms and Vice President for one term for Aglow. Rebecca operated a 24 hour Life line from her home for 4 years. She also taught adult Sunday School Class at New Beginning’s Church, taught a disciple class once a week at the T.R. Havins Unit and headed up a monthly chapel meeting there. Rebecca was on the Chapel of Hope’s board, an after care ministry for prisoners, hosted a home Bible study, did monthly nursing home ministry and also served on the Salvation Army Board. Rebecca was also presented the Good Neighbor Award by the Brownwood Chamber of Commerce.Rebecca is a woman who has stood the test of great adversity and has come forth as gold. She has been very faithful and consistent in her work and witness for Jesus. She will be greatly missed by all.
Survivors include her daughters Teresa Culpepper and husband Tommy of Brownwood, Pam Scheberl of Brownwood; grandchildren Steven and Shelly Cross of Coleman, Jennifer McKee of Brownwood, Tracy McKee of Brownwood, Brad and Becki Lusk of Brownwood, Ricky and Jennifer Crow of Brownwood; sister Jean Schwartz and husband Jimmy of Early; brother Mark Slaughter and wife Virginia of Grandview. Numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents Levell and Maurine Slaughter; husband Abe McKee; son Mickey McKee; daughter Debbie McKee; granddaughters Kaitlyn Cross and Brittany Scheberl; brother Michael David (Butch) Slaughter and a niece Amy Slaughter.
