ReadAcrossAm2Children all across America celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday on March 2nd by reading.  At Northwest Elementary, special guests came to read to students for an event called, “Read Across America.”  According to Jennifer Hunt, Digital & Media Specialist, eighteen guest readers visited the school, and read for a total of nine hours.

Community guest readers were Mayor Stephen Haynes, Mitch Slaymaker, Jerry Don Gleaton, Bill Slaymaker, Bryan Wade, Tim Skaggs, Rodney McGlothlin, Coach Shipley, Coach Lang, Coach Calfee, Kimber Bennet and Emily Crawford.  High school athletes who read were Graylon Brown, Garret Kemp, Michael Ballejo, James Crow, Miranda Sal and Kinsey Johnson.

Many students also made Dr. Seuss hats to wear for the day.

“When we celebrate Dr. Seuss and reading, we send a clear message to America’s children that reading is fun and important,” says Seussville.com.
