Funeral Services for Raymond B. McCoy, age 87 of Brownwood will be held Saturday January 07, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Davis-Morris Funeral Home in Brownwood with Tim Skaggs and Bill Allen officiating, interment to follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Davis-Morris Funeral Home. Raymond was born March 6, 1924 to Luther Jackson McCoy and Venie Dixon McCoy at Indian Creek, Brown County, Texas. He married Verna Jean Strickland Edington on June 6, 1942 in Brownwood, Texas.
Survivors include loving wife Jean, son Don McCoy and wife Melissa, grandchildren: Amanda Gardner and husband Shayne of Dallas, Texas, Emily McCoy of Houston, Texas. Great-grandchildren: Jackson Gardner, Charles Gardner of Dallas, Texas. He is preceded in death by parents, brothers and sisters, Odie, Letha, Clint, Effie, Homer, Roy, Kyle, Vela, and Lucian. Raymond served with the United States Army in the European theater during World War II; and worked for the Gulf Oil Corporation in West Texas for more than 31 years as a Plant Operator, retired in 1984.
He was a sensitive, loving, gentle, hardworking man, devoted to his wife and family. Raymond was a very spiritual man having become a Christian at the early age of 10 years old. He was faithful, with a very active prayer life, to the Lord his entire life. Raymond was a longtime member of the Coggin Avenue Baptist Church of Brownwood. Raymond and Jean traveled in their RV trailer across the United States for over 41 years of his life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Coggin Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund or a charity of your choice.
