Shannon3croppedNew railings are being installed at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington following the tragic death of Brownwood firefighter Shannon Stone, who tragically fell from the stands in July of last year.

ESPN.com reports that pieces of the new railing have already been installed in the outfield, and are a different design than the ones previously featured at the ballpark.  According to the website, the new rails are taller, thinner and more difficult to lean over due to a flat top that juts in toward the stands.  According to ESPN.com, the ball club said the entire park will have the new railings by Opening Day at a cost of approximately $1.1 million.

Another coming addition to the ballpark is a statue of Stone and his son Cooper which is expected to be completed in time for a dedication ceremony at the beginning of the 2012 season.  Western artist and sculptor T.R. Sullivan has been commissioned to create the statue which will be a life-size bronze statue of Stone and his 6-year-old son Cooper attending a Ranger’s game and will be entitled “Rangers Fans.”   It will be located outside the home plate gate at the Ballpark in Arlington.
