Brown County emergency responders were kept busy Wednesday with three accidents throughout the county, including two rollovers, by 1:00 p.m.

The first accident was a half mile north of May where an older male’s vehicle ran off of the roadway at approximately 7:45 a.m. Wednesday morning.  According to emergency responders the driver suffered what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Brownwood Regional Medical Center.  May Volunteer Fire Department, EMS, Brown County Sheriff’s Office and Texas DPS responded to that accident scene.

Just hours later, shortly after 10:00 a.m., a 16-year-old old driver rolled his vehicle on County Road 336 just outside of the Early city limits.  According to Early Police Chief David Mercer, speed was a contributing factor, due to the weather and road conditions.   The vehicle involved in this accident was identified as the suspect vehicle in a criminal mischief case which occurred this morning, Mercer said.  Early Volunteer Fire Department, Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Early Police Department and EMS responded to the accident scene.

According to Mercer, a vehicle was reported to have been doing “doughnuts” in one of the baseball fields at Early City Park.  Mercer stated that the vehicle was “mudding and literally destroyed the ball field.”   No charges have been filed; however the incident is under investigation, said Mercer.

A third accident occurred on North Hwy 279, at “Dead Man’s Curve,” where a Chevy pickup rolled over in the southbound lane at approximately 1:00 p.m.  According to law enforcement, speed also appeared to be a factor in this accident along with the wet pavement, causing the vehicle to drive into the embankment and roll onto its top.  The male driver was reported to be uninjured and walking around when first responders arrived on scene.  Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, and Brown County Water Improvement District Lake Patrol officers responded to the scene of the accident.

Drivers are reminded to slow their speed on wet roads during and after rainstorms, when pavement becomes slick.  The public is also warned to slow down when approaching emergency vehicles that are stopped in the roadway with their emergency lights activated.  State law requires motorists to slow down and move over if possible for emergency responders.

All of the above accidents are being investigated by Texas Department of Public Safety.
