commcourt2Brown County Emergency Management Coordinator Brent Bush told Brown County Commissioners Monday that the highly anticipated radios ordered for local law enforcement were received on Friday.

The radios were ordered after many months of difficult discussion between the commissioners’ court, possible suppliers and the West Central Texas Council of Governments.  On June 4th, a decision was reached to order the radios from LAN Communications, a company based in the Abilene area. The radios were received just in time to qualify for money from the West Central Texas Council of Governments under the Homeland Security Grant, beating a July 31st deadline.

As decided on June 4th, an amount of $67,949 for all needed radios and equipment was approved to be paid to supplier LAN Communications. This total would be $40 under the total grant funds available for purchase.

The reimbursement process is underway for the county with Bush stating that the copy of the final payments made to LAN Communications is what is needed to complete the process.

A bid for $4500 to cover installation was also provided by LAN during the radio bidding process.  This amount is not part of the Homeland Security Grant funding.  The installation process is still being reviewed and discussed at a later time.
