The filing period for candidates in the upcoming 2014 Primary Elections for state and county offices came to an end Monday at 6:00 p.m. across the state of Texas, and Brown County saw several candidates file.
Several incumbents are being challenged in the coming Republican Primary Election on March 4th with 25 Republicans filing for a place on the ballot, according to Republican Party Chairman Sammie Stewart.
“I think it is wonderful to have so many stepping up and offering to become a public servant,” stated Stewart.
Four candidates are vying for the job of Brown County Judge, including incumbent Ray West and his two Republican challengers –local attorney Ronnie Lappe and current Brown County Water Improvement District board member Dennis Graham. Joe Cooksey filed as an independent.
Two previous county commissioners are running against current commissioners, while other incumbents of other county offices are running unopposed. Three candidates filed for Justice of the Peace Precinct 2, two candidates filed for County Court at Law Judge, three candidates for Constable Precinct 3, and three candidates for District Clerk.
