A local wounded warrior and veteran is being featured in a documentary tonight, November 11th at 9:00 p.m. on “The Clubhouse” (channel 262-The Back 9 Network, on DirecTV).
Andy Putman, a graduate of Brownwood High School (Class of 2005) and Ranger College School of Nursing (2009), joined the Army in August 2010 and was deployed to Afghanistan in February 2012 as a medic and member of the 82nd Airborne Division, 1-504 Parachute Infantry Regiment.
His wife, Kendra, and their kids lived at the base in Fayetteville, North Carolina while Andy was deployed. Then, only 66 days into his deployment, the vehicle Andy was riding in, part of a large convoy, was hit by an IED during a mission. One of his buddies was killed in the explosion, but Andy survived with incapacitating injuries, suffering broken bones, internal injuries, a collapsed lung and traumatic brain injury (TBI). Andy was not initially expected to survive but somehow made a miraculous recovery. After Andy made some recovery, a golf pro was called in to teach him the sport of golf, according to a family friend. With lessons, Andy became pretty good and was recently the subject of an episode of “The Clubhouse,” a sports/golf talk series. According to the network information, the series is a “topic driven no holds barred look at the day’s biggest and most pressing issues.”
So tune in to channel 262, the Back 9 Network for the Clubhouse, to see the story of how a local man joined the Army, served and sacrificed, to return a changed man struggling through both physical and emotional injuries of war.
