The City of Brownwood is working to move forward their three big Parks & Recreation projects. Probably the biggest project will be the massive Camp Bowie Sports Complex which is set to be built on a 66 acre site along with the Family Aquatic Center along Milam Drive.
This large site will initially include 2 adult and 2 teenage fields with room for expansion, 4 girls softball fields, and 4 little league fields. Each field area will also include a concession stand, shaded picnic area, and a shaded playground area. There will also be a large parking area for 349 vehicles with some overflow parking available.
Plans for the proposed Sports Complex are still under development. There is currently $3.5 million allotted for this project with a possible $250,000 extra expected to be added if a Texas Parks and Wildlife grant is approved. The project is currently estimated to cost $5.3 million as it stands now so the city is looking for ways to cut back these costs.
Director of Parks & Recreation David Withers said,”(The Plans) should be going to City Council for approval to go out for bids sometime in the next month or two.”
