The Brown County Appraisal District has mailed out the 2009 property tax statements for Brown County, and many residents will see some changes in the amount of tax that they owe over last year.

Residents were given notice of their property value back in the spring from the appraisal district, and those who disagreed with their value had a chance to appeal.

Brown County, municipalities, and area school districts set their tax rates last month which will be reflected on these 2009 tax statements.

Brown County kept their overall tax rate the same as did the City of Brownwood.  Tax rates increased however for the cities of Early, Bangs, and Blanket.

School districts were more mixed with the Brownwood ISD and Blanket ISD showing slightly increased tax rates; Early ISD and Brookesmith ISD staying the same as 2008 rates; and Zephyr ISD, May ISD, and Bangs ISD showing a slight drop in the tax rate for 2009.

Residents have until January 31st, 2010 to pay their 2009 taxes without having a penalty.

A full summary of the last three years of tax rates and exemptions can be viewed HERE at the Brown County Appraisal District’s Website.
