McCartyPrestonPreston C. McCarty was born in Brownwood, Texas on 8/13/1929 to Mary Ellen & Walter Maston McCarty. He passed away on Saturday 8/20/2011 at the age of 82, after a brief illness.

He attended Brownwood public schools & graduated from Brownwood Business College in 1950, majoring in accounting. Preston served in the U.S. Army as an M.P. in San Francisco until his honorable discharge in 1947.

Preston married Dourine Clark. On July 21, 1951 and moved to Odessa, Texas to be a partner in an oil field service business until 1963. Returning to Brownwood in 1963, he was office & accounting manager of Rock River Woolen Mills until 1977.

In 1977 he was owner of a private transportation business that transported BN-SF railroad crews over the state of Texas. He and his son, Don McCarty worked in this business together for 20 years. Preston retired in 1997. To describe Preston in 4 words, “he was all business.”

He was also in the Masonic Lodge, where he was a Master Mason, 32nd degree Mason and Shriner since 1953.

Preston loved ranching and livestock. He was always out in the field checking on the cows or the hay crop. He loved his family, grandchildren and knew that his Lord and Jesus Christ was his savior.  Preston was a member of Coggin Avenue Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Dorine McCarty; one son, Don McCarty & wife Sharla of Brownwood, Texas; grandchildren, Tyler McCarty of Lewisville, Texas & Kristen McCarty of the Woodlands, Texas; brother-in-law, Jim Strickland & wife, Willene Clark Strickland of Omaha, Nebraska; their children, nephews, James & Kim Strickland & children, Tommy & Jami Strickland & children and Lance & Marsha (Strickland) Lincoln & children all of Omaha, Nebraska; also numerous nieces and nephews.

Those preceding him into glory were his parents, half brothers W.M. Jr., Mack, Dewey, & Morris McCarty.

Visitation will be on Monday August 22, from 6:00 until 7:30 pm and services will be at 11:00am Tuesday, August 23, 2011, all at Heartland Funeral Home in Early, Texas. Interment will follow in the Greenleaf Cemetery in Brownwood, Texas.
