Written By Ben Cox – Brownwood Premier High School is currently preparing for a new school year while also welcoming their new campus Director, Tim Garcia.
Garcia will be splitting his time between the Comanche and Brownwood Campuses of Premier High School, having taken the reins for Brownwood just last week.
Premier High School, operated by Responsive Education, is one of 37 Premier High Schools across Texas and Arkansas. Originally designed for at-risk students to complete their high school degree rather than obtain a GED, Premier High School has also become a way for students to graduate faster and begin college sooner.
The school will be hosting an open house this evening, July 12th, starting at 6:30 p.m. which is open to any and all interested parties. There is no fee to attend Premier, as it is a state funded Charter School. The school must meet the same TEA standards as traditional schools as well as have the same passing test scores.
Garcia began his teaching career after substitute teaching after graduating from Tarleton State. He went on to obtain his teaching certification and later his Masters Degree. “I loved it, I enjoyed helping those kids learn and decided that this was it for me” said Garcia. He has been a director for Premier in Comanche for six years, and with the company since 2010.
All students are required to have a letter of acceptance to a college or university in order to graduate from the program, as part of the schools charter. Dual credit courses are offered at Premier, for students to get a head start on higher education.
The school opened in 2007 as Paradigm, and merged with Responsive Education to begin as Premier High School during the 2010/2011 school year. More information can be found through school’s website, or by visiting dontwaitgraduate.com
