SEGUIN, Texas – Poor shooting leads to a 73-57 loss for the Howard Payne men’s basketball team against Texas Lutheran University Thursday at Memorial Gymnasium.
The Jackets only shot 19% to Texas Lutheran’s 51.9% in the first half. Out-rebounding HPU 25-17 in the opening half, TLU held a 33-19 halftime advantage.
HPU was not able to get completely back in the game in the second half, but did post a better offensive second half scoring 38. The Jackets cut the TLU lead to 10, 67-57 with 1:50 left in the game. Howard Payne went on to lose 73-57 to TLU.
Donovan Gardner led HPU with 17 points and four steals. Brandon Irwin added 10 points.
TLU was led by Isaac Williams with a game high 32 points and eight rebounds.
Howard Payne falls to 4-12 overall and 3-9 in conference. Texas Lutheran stands at 7-8 overall and 6-6 in ASC play.
The Jackets will be in Kerrville on Saturday taking on Schreiner University at 3:00 pm.
