Election Day is soon approaching and as voters get ready to make their decisions, Brown County Elections office announces polling dates and times for Election Day and hours for those who wish to miss the long lines and vote early. 2012 is the presidential election and many other important races, and Brown County elections officials encourage all registered voters to cast their ballots and know the importance of their vote.
“This is a very important election,” said Larry Franks, assistant elections official. “Please, please, please get out and vote.”
According to Franks, there are approximately 23,000 registered voters in Brown County and typically up to 50% show up to the polls each election. During the 2008 presidential elections, a record 63% turnout was seen in Brown County and it is hoped that the turnout this year will be at least 60% Franks said. The elections office has ordered plenty of ballots and hopes to see at least 19,000 of the registered voters make it to the polls.
Of the 600 requests for absentee ballots, approximately 350 have already been returned by mail.
Elections officials held a voter registration rally on Tuesday, October 9th where 300-400 people registered to vote during the event according to Franks.
Early voting will run from October 22nd through November 2nd, giving the public many opportunities to cast their votes ahead of the crowds. Registered voters may cast their ballots at the Adams Street Community Center, located at 511 E. Adams Street in Brownwood, during the following hours:
