Brownwood News – On Friday, March 2nd, at approximately 1:20 p.m., officers with the Brownwood Police Department were dispatched to a local bank office regarding a report of theft. Upon arrival, officers were informed of a couple who had allegedly stole $1,700 using the art of distraction and some fast fingers.

 

 

According to witnesses at the bank who reviewed surveillance footage, around 11 a.m. on Friday a Hispanic male and Hispanic female arrived at the business with $4,000 in US currency in $100 denominations. The pair asked to exchange this money for smaller bills. During the course of the transaction, the male suspect distracted the teller and the female suspect pocketed approximately $1,700 of the money that was intended to be given to the bank.

The theft was discovered at the end of the clerks shift and reported to management. The case is currently under investigation.

Friday, March 2nd

  • 12:10 a.m. Brownwood Police patrolling in the 1700 block of Vine Street observed a one vehicle accident. Officers made contact with the subjects on scene and conducted an investigation. After the investigation was conducted, it was determined Morris Joshua Moore, of Brownwood, was Driving While Intoxicated. Moore was arrested for the offense and transported to the Brown County Jail.
  • 3:18 p.m. Brownwood Police were dispatched to a northern Brownwood residence in reference to an assault. A report was filed at the complainant’s request.

Saturday, March 3rd

  • 9:55 a.m. Brownwood Police were dispatched to the Brownwood Regional Medical Center in regards to a man making threats to kill people. The man was identified as Pedro Cruz Alonzo of Brownwood, who had allegedly threatened a nurse and an officer on scene. Alonzo was arrested and transported to the county jail. The male was found to have narcotics on his person.
  • 5:00 p.m. Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 2200 block of Calvert Road in reference to a burglary. A report was taken to be passed on for further investigation.
  • 11:47 p.m. Brownwood Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 200 block of W Commerce Street. During the stop, the driver of the vehicle, identified as David Leandro Ortiz, of Bangs, was found to be intoxicated. Ortiz was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and was transported to the Brown County Jail.

Sunday, March 4th

  • 7:40 a.m. Brownwood Police received a call for theft of building materials. The owner of the building had video of the theft. He posted the video on social media and citizens identified the suspect. The suspect was interviewed, investigation is on-going.
  • 10:26 p.m. Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 400 block of W Commerce Street in reference to a theft. The suspect was located near the 500 block of W Commerce St. During the investigation, the subject was found to be in possession of marijuana and was also discovered to have an active warrant out of Austin for his arrest.

Monday, March 5th

  • 2:09 a.m. Brownwood Police received a call of criminal trespassing in the 400 block of W. Commerce. Officers arrived at the business and located the subject. A copy of the trespass warning was given to the officers and the subject was arrested for criminal trespassing.
