EarlyPDLogoIt may sound like common sense, but the Early Police Department wants to remind area residents to lock their doors to prevent burglaries.  The Early Police Department has investigated several motor vehicle burglaries in the city of Early over the last few days according to Early Police Chief David Mercer.

All the vehicles involved were unlocked vehicles said Mercer who explained that unlocked vehicles are a prime target for thieves and are common targets.

“Burglars can walk by a vehicle and try the door, and if it’s locked, walk-on to another and if its unlocked reach in and grab something quickly and be gone within seconds,” said Mercer in a recent email.

He stated that the Early Police Department urges everyone to be sure and lock their vehicles even when at home and parked in your own driveway.

“Crime prevention is a joint effort for the police and the people we serve. Do your part by locking your cars, houses, sheds and storage buildings,” Mercer said.  “If you see something or someone suspicious, call 911. Let an officer come out and check things out.

He further explained, “Never think to yourself, ‘I don’t want to bother the police,’ that’s why we’re here, for your safety and security. When in doubt, call.”
