Police are investigating the drowning of a San Angelo man at a local motel swimming pool which occurred Friday afternoon, according to Brownwood Police officials.
According to Brownwood Police Sgt. James Kidd, the man and his family were in Brownwood from San Angelo for a family reunion and were staying in the Gate 1 Motor Inn on Hwy 377S. The 44-year-old man went ahead of his wife and kids to the swimming pool and when they later arrived, they found him at the bottom of the pool around 4:00pm, Kidd reported.
His wife pulled the man out of the pool and started CPR; however he was taken to the Brownwood Regional Medical Center emergency room where he was pronounced dead at 4:30pm, Kidd said.
An autopsy was performed by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office and preliminary results show drowning as the cause of death. What caused the drowning is yet to be determined, Kidd said. Toxicology results were not complete and the investigation is ongoing according to Kidd.
