The Early Police Department is continuing their investigation into a shooting that took place on Monday at a home in Early.
According to Early Chief of Police David Mercer reported Friday afternoon that investigators are hoping to be able to interview Nelson Thomas, the man who was shot, next week. Thomas is still listed as critical but stable condition, according to Mercer.
“Investigators have consulted the district attorney’s office and will meet again with district attorney Michael Murray late next week,” said Mercer in an email Friday. “Details of what happened during the incident will not be released until the investigation nears completion.”
Early emergency responders were called to a domestic disturbance, where officers located Thomas with a gunshot wound to the stomach lying on the front porch of the home in the 200 block of Crescent Drive on Monday around 5:25 PM.
Thomas was shot in the abdomen with a 20-gauge shotgun by his wife Micah after he allegedly assaulted her, Mercer said. No one else was home at the time of the shooting.Nelson Thomas’s wife was transported from the scene to Brownwood Regional Medical center for anxiety and assault wounds.
