Brownwood Police officers engaged in a high speed vehicle chase in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Officer Brandon Arnold of the Brownwood Police Department issued a report stating that he observed a vehicle that appeared to be traveling faster than the posted speed limit of 40 mph in the 900 block of Austin Ave just after midnight.
Officer Arnold pursued the vehicle and activated his emergency lights to pull over the driver, however the driver made a series of turns and ignored the officer’s emergency lights and siren according to the report.
Officer Aaron Taylor intercepted the vehicle and assisted with the chase as the target vehicle was going west on Coggin Ave. The vehicle turned going south on 2nd Street where the driver quickly accelerated and lost control of the vehicle, fish tailed and went into a yard of a residence on 2nd Street & knocking over a stop sign into the roadway. The report states that the driver of the vehicle continued to drive though the yard, back on the street eastbound on Avenue G at a high rate of speed ignoring stop signs along the way.
Arnold’s report says that the car traveled eastbound for 2 more blocks, turned right onto Durham Avenue where the suspect quickly accelerated trying to elude police. Arnold’s report also says that he observed his patrol car speed in excess of 60 mph while in pursuit with the driver accelerating away from him.
Arnold’s report states that the chase ended as the vehicle entered Roselawn Drive where Durham Avenue ends at the Coggin Park parking lot. The driver stopped and quickly exited the vehicle in the parking lot. The driver ran to the passenger door when officers realized that there was a passenger in the vehicle. Officers ordered the driver to get on the ground numerous times but he refused according to the report.
The report also states that officers had to force the driver to the ground and restrain him. A female who was the passenger of the vehicle refused to leave the vehicle and officers had to remove her. The driver and passenger appeared to have been intoxicated.
The driver was identified as 41 year old Jesse Arriaga of Brownwood and was arrested for evading Arrest $5,000 Bond, reckless driving $2,000 Bond, resisting arrest $2,000 Bond, surety withdrawal for theft $5,000 Bond. Arriaga is currently held at Brown County Jail.
The passenger was identified as 47 year old Adelita Garcia Rivera. She was arrested for public intoxication with $500 bond, but has posted bond and has been released.
