James Nix

On Sunday, February 5th around 3 p.m. a Brownwood Police Officer was dispatched to a park near the 2000 block of Coggin Avenue regarding a report of narcotic/drug activity. Upon arrival, the officer noted a black Escalade parked, and the “smell of burnt marijuana.”

The officer made contact with the driver, James Nix. The officer asked Nix to step out of the vehicle. After questioning from the officer, Nix pointed to the middle console of the vehicle and stated that marijuana was stored inside. Nix then also told the officer his children were currently playing at the park, and asked if he could contact a family member to pick them up. After the children were situated, the officer arrested James Nix for Possession of Marijuana in a Drug Free Zone, less than 2 ounces.

Friday, February 3rd

*1:58 p.m. Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 400 block of North Broadway Street in reference to a burglary. A storage building showed signs of forced entry and several items were noted to have been stolen, including: Star Trek and Dungeons and Dragons Board Games, a large wooden chest labeled “David,” and a purple dragon statue.

 

Saturday, February 4th

*3:16 p.m. Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 1500 block of 3rd Street in reference to an assault. Known suspects were listed, and a report was filed.

*3:49 p.m. Brownwood Police responded to a call from Payless Shoe Store on Commerce Street regarding a theft. Upon arrival, a complainant stated a male and a female stole three pairs of shoes. A report was filed.

*5:02 p.m. Brownwood Police conducted a traffic stop near the corner of 15th and Coggin Avenue. A search of the vehicle was conducted and numerous narcotics were located. A male passenger admitted the items were his, and officers arrested Mario Guerra for Manufacturing/Delivery of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Marijuana. Items noted in the report included: over 3 grams of Methamphetamine, a Glass Pipe used to smoke methamphetamine, Digital Scales, a pink baggie with Marijuana Seeds, two smaller bags of Marijuana, and a plastic bag containing a “partially smoked” Marijuana Cigarette, along with a small butane torch.

*11:59 p.m. Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 1800 block of Avenue C for a 911 emergency call. This call led to the arrest of two juveniles for Interference with Duties of a Public Servant/Resisting Arrest or Transport.

Sunday, February 6th

Crystal Chapa

Early Police Officers responded to the Heartland Mall parking lot to a reported domestic disturbance between a male and female. As Officers arrived the female was leaving, officers stopped the female to question her about the disturbance. The female was identified as Crystal Marie Chapa. When ask about the disturbance the female replied “yeah I slapped him because he was talking crap to me.”

After further investigation Officers learned from witnesses that Crystal Chapa made several attempts to run over the male victim with her car. When they pulled into the mall parking lot, Chapa reportedly began driving fast and reckless so the male could not get out of the car. The male turned off the key to slow the car and get out at which time she began chasing the victim with the car and attempting to run over him.
The victim stated that during part of the struggle both outside and in the car he was repeatedly hit in the face by Crystal Chapa several times with her fist. The male did have severe redness to the nose and cheeks on his face. The male stated that he attempted to call 911 but Chapa stated “give me that phone “and fought with him to take it away and prevent him from making the phone call.
Early Police Officers placed Crystal Marie Chapa under arrest for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly weapon (car), and Interference with Emergency Phone Call.
