The Brownwood City Council is expected to approve raises for their police officers and firefighters on Tuesday.
If approved, there will be a 6% base salary increase for all firefighters and a 6% increase in base salaries for police officers in accordance with their step pay schedule. Both police and fire will also have a $25 per month increase applicable to all certification levels. The raises will take effect October 1st of this year.
In September 2008, the City of Brownwood entered meet and confer agreements between the Brownwood Professional Fire Fighters Association and the Brownwood Municipal Police Association that called for pay raises each year over three consecutive years. The two associations deferred their pay raises last year due to city budget concerns. The scheduled action by the city council on Tuesday will implement the previously deferred raises.The expected action by the city council will also eliminate a temporary police officer position that was created while testing and internal promotions were conducted.
The Brownwood City Council will meet Tuesday, September 20 in the council chambers at Brownwood City Hall.
