This summer, Brownwood’s Lyric Theatre offers students a merry option to escape the heat while learning the basics of acting, theatre, costumes, lighting, stagecraft, props, and more! While attending camp, children who have completed Kindergarten through high school will learn the basics of acting and techniques. They will be cast, directed, and perform before audiences, while experiencing the heart of the theater in versatile methods including crafts, media, and hands-on activities.
Students will be split into age-appropriate environments so that all students not only learn about theatrical activities in a manner suited to their needs, but be part of a professional show. The 2012 theme is “A Mid-Summer Night’s Christmas.” Combined, the plays offer magical moments, miraculous blooming poinsettias, and even swashbuckling pirates. That’s right: Christmas Pirates. Audiences will experience what happens when hope, faith, and a lot of creativity come together.
Summer Camp will be held at Howard Payne University from Monday, June 4th through Friday, June 8th, and continues on Monday the 11th through Friday the 15th. Two public performances will be held on Friday, June 15th and Saturday, June 16th at 2:30 PM.
Students in first through third grade will attend camp from 9:00 AM to Noon each day of camp; fourth grade and up will attend from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. Cost for camp is $175 per student, including two weeks of unique education, snacks, and a t-shirt.
