Brownwood News – Preston Browne waived his right to a jury trial during a proceeding held at 11 a.m. today at the Brown County Courthouse. Browne was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, and Possession of a Controlled Substance after a shooting incident on Saturday, May 20, 2017 left a 29 year old man dead.
Browne has been offered a plea agreement with a 35 year sentence. A proceeding will be held Friday, April 20th, at 9 a.m. at the Brown County Courthouse to finalize the agreement.
On Saturday, May 20, 2017, at approximately 12:25 p.m., Brownwood Police Officers were called to a home in the 300 block N. Greenleaf Street for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, responding officers located one male subject in a residence suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers were informed a person involved with the shooting had fled the scene on foot towards the City of Early.
A Brown County Sheriff’s Office Deputy and Early Police Department Officer located and detained 25 year old Preston Dilon Browne, on CC Woodson Road near S. Broadway Street in Brownwood. Browne was arrested at that time and transported to the Brown County Jail.
The 29 year-old male victim was flown to Hendrick Hospital in Abilene in critical condition by Air Evac. He later died from his injuries sustained during the shooting.
Preston Browne has remained in the Brown County Jail in lieu of bonds totaling $610,000.
