Emergency responders were dispatched to a one-vehicle accident in the 400 block of Early Blvd Thursday evening involving a pickup striking a utility pole and sign.

The accident occurred shortly before 7:00 PM when the vehicle ran off the road and hit a utility pole and sign in front of Prime Time Lube Express.  According to the driver, he was traveling toward Brownwood on Early Blvd (Hwy 377) near Heartland Mall and was on his way to go fishing when the accident occurred.

The owner of Prime Time Lube Express stated that he heard the accident and talked with a witness who stated that the Chevy pickup veered across oncoming traffic, struck a utility pole on his property, then traveled between and hit posts of a large steel sign and onto the lot of Mills County State Bank.  It came to a stop just at the curb of the eastbound lanes of Early Blvd.  No other vehicles were involved in the accident according to emergency responders.

The pickup suffered severe front-end damage, breaking off the left passenger wheel, its rim was broken into two pieces.  The top of the pickup was damaged when it struck the bottom of the sign’s lighted message board.

The cause of the accident is not known; however, emergency responders and witnesses stated that it was amazing the driver wasn’t severely injured, that it could have been much worse.  The driver was able to walk away from the accident with only scratches and bruises according to emergency responders.
