Person, Lady Lions Qualify for State Cross Country – Photo Gallery

The Brownwood Lions and Lady Lions cross country teams participated in the Region I-3A championship meet on Saturday at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock with one individual and one team qualifying for the state meet.

Brownwood Lion Dylan Person came in 5th place at the meet with a time of 16:09.90 in the 3 mile run to qualify for state.  This will be the second year in a row for Person to move to the state meet.

The Lady Lions came in 3rd as a team to secure a place at state as well for the second time in a row.  Liberty Hill was the first place team and Dalhart was second.

Cross Country Coach Don Hood said that the girls’ tenacity helped them secure the spot in state as they never gave up.

“I don’t think we had our best day, but we still qualified just because we kept fighting,” said Coach Hood.  “That’s the difference.  We got out too slow and got way behind and they just kept fighting back and fighting back—and that’s good enough.”

Hood said that the teams had good showings despite some nagging injuries.

The state meet will be held on Saturday, November 9th at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
