The Pecan Valley Kiwanis Club of Early recently held its annual Sweetheart Night and Awards Banquet. The spouses were treated to a night out and meal at the Brownwood Country Club. Musical entertainment for the evening was provided by “Island” Phil.
Master of Ceremonies was Kiwanian Bill King, accompanied by his wife and fellow Kiwanian, Nancy.
The speaker for the evening was Tom Washburn, Pastor at Austin Avenue Church of Christ. Tom was accompanied by his wife, Julie.
The banquet was honored with the attendance of Texas/Oklahoma District, Division 12 Lt. Governor Tommy Blevins and his wife, Judy.
Kiwanis Club President Mark Fisher gave a brief overview of the accomplishments and activities of the Club over this past year and presented last year’s president, Morris Horton, with a plaque to recognize him for his outstanding leadership and the resulting successes of the Club in 2012-2013.
President Fisher recognized and thanked the Kiwanis Sponsored Leadership Program faculty advisors for their efforts this past year. The Early High School Key Club was represented at the banquet by several of its members, along with their faculty Advisor, Kate Black. Division Key Club Coordinators Rudy and Bea Barron from San Angelo were also in attendance at the banquet.
The Pecan Valley Kiwanis Club also sponsors The Builders Club at Early Middle School.

The Layperson of the Year and Spiritual Aims award was presented to Bill Belich. Making the presentation to Bill was last year’s recipient, Roy Parrack.
The Kiwanian of the Year was presented to Don Holland. Making the presentation to Don was last year’s recipient, Deborah Price.
To conclude the evening’s festivities, President Fisher stressed that the successes of the Pecan Valley Kiwanis Club rests with the dedication and commitments of its entire membership. President Fisher reminded the audience of what Kiwanis is … “Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time.”
The Pecan Valley Kiwanis Club meets each Thursday morning at 6:30 am, at the Brandin’ Iron Café, 1501 Market Place Blvd., Brownwood, Tx. Visitors are always welcome.
