The Kiwanis Club of the Pecan Valley (Early) recently held its annual Sweetheart/Awards Banquet to recognize those Kiwanis Club members that have excelled during the previous year on helping the club attain its objectives in the community. The event was held at the Brownwood Country Club. The Master of Ceremonies was Kiwanis Division 12 Lt. Gov. Don Holland.
The Program of the night was presented by Lt. Gov. Holland and Divisions 12 and 22 Key Club Lt. Gov. Sarah Davis, also an Early ISD student.
The first set of recognitions was to those club members that have maintained a Perfect Attendance record. They are as follows:
- Jose Brown – 3 years
- Don Holland – 6 years
- Ralph Watts – 7 years
- Morris Horton – 8 years
- Bill Belich – 9 years
- Roy Parrack – 16 years
- Bill Pursch – 18 years
- Ricky Marks – 20 years
- Bill Thedford – 27 years
The Early High School Sophomore of the Year award was presented by Early Key Club Faculty Advisor Vivian Taylor. This year’s recipient of this award was Colton Meisner. Lt. Gov. Holland also announced that in addition to being the local Kiwanis Sophomore of the Year, Colton was also recognized for receiving the Kiwanis Division 12 Sophomore of the Year award.
The Spiritual Aims/Layperson of the Year award was presented to John Clifford by last year’s recipient Jim Hampton.
The Past President’s award was presented to Bill Pursch by Don Holland.
The Kiwanian of the Year was presented to Morris Horton by last year’s recipient, Jose Brown.
Four special presentations were made to those club members that have been instrumental in the organization of the Pecan Valley Kiwanis Club and the fulfillment of the club’s obligations to the community from the early days of the club’s original charter in 1977. Those recipients were Carol “Nick” Nichols, Bill Fielder, John Wright, and Billy Carter.
