Paul Hampton Byrd, 70, of Comanche, went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday April 5, 2018, in Brownwood. A funeral service, under the directions of Heartland Funeral Home of Comanche, will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday April 8, 2018 at the Heartland Chapel. Interment, with military honors, will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. Paul was born March 22, 1948, in Comanche to Harry and Maxine (Abels) Byrd. He attend school in Comanche and later joined the military serving in the United States Army for 3 years, the Army Reserves for 3 years, and the National Guard Reserves for 27 years. Paul was a driver for Higginbotham’s for about 20 years and then worked for Pates from 1997 – 2011. He loved piddlin’ on his farm and taking care of all his farm animals. He was a member of the Boot-Scootin Club at the Silver River. He attended the New Life Pentecostal Church.
Paul is survived his daughter, Kelly Jean Byrd of California; grandson, Colton Shane Mize of Comanche; sisters, Virginia Byrd Sellers and Dorthy Byrd Mayer; and Rachel Lively Byrd. He was preceded in death by parents Harry Byrd and Maxine Byrd Wilson; Brothers, Clinton Byrd, Durward (Shorty) Byrd, Cecil Byrd, infants James Wayland and Gloria B.; paternal grandparents, Burt & Oma Byrd; maternal grandparents, John & Winnie Abels; brother-in-law, Ray Sellers.
