Brownwood Lions head basketball coach Charles Pattillo announced his retirement on Thursday afternoon after more than four decades of coaching.
“I appreciate the job Coach Pattillo has done for us,” said Brownwood High School athletic director Bob Shipley. “His wealth of experience was vital in helping our boys reach the playoffs the past two years.”
Pattillo was head basketball coach for the Brownwood Lions from 1989 to 1993 and returned in 2009 to take the Lions on back-to-back playoff appearances.
Pattillo also coached the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets basketball team from 1993-2008 where he earned a string of accolades including conference coach of the year four times.
“Any coach that has reached the 600 win milestone is a winner and an icon,” Shipley said. “I know he’s looking forward to playing some golf and following grandkids. I am grateful for what he has meant to Brownwood basketball throughout the years.”
