Patsy Geraldine Coffee was born Oct. 9, 1926, in Brownwood, Texas, to Peyton Joshua and Virginia Gilmer Coffee, she was the third child and only daughter. She passed in her 86th year of life on August 21, 2013.
She graduated from Brownwood High School in 1944. She attended Howard Payne College earning B.A. and M.A. degrees and Teacher Certification in Secondary Education while majoring in English and Spanish. Patsy never married, devoting her early professional life to teaching in public secondary schools of Texas. She very much enjoyed travel and often spent her summer vacations in Mexico in order to further her fluency in the Spanish language, one of her favored teaching interest.
Her travels also took her to Japan after World War II where she taught American civilian and military dependents of families stationed abroad. She unselfishly retired early from her beloved teaching to become the sole caregiver of her aged and ill parents. Patsy was fiercely independent and adamantly insisted on a reclusive lifestyle, cherishing her books, jealously guarding her privacy and caring for her pets.
In strict keeping with Patsy’s often expressed wishes a private family memorial gathering will be arranged at the convenience of surviving family members, all of whom reside great distances from Jenkins Spring Cemetery where her enurned remains will be finally at rest.
Arrangements are under the directions of Heartland Funeral Home of Early.
